Thrifty Corp. reported that sales for the year ended Aug. 31 rose 8.1% to $1.4 billion while net income increased 14.2% to $31.9 million. “Same store” comparable sales of Thrifty Drug & Discount stores (which doesn’t include sales of stores opened during the two last fiscal years) exceeded the previous year’s sales by 5.9%. However, the combined earnings of Crown Books Corp., of which Thrifty owns 34%, and Trak Auto West, of which Thrifty owns 50%, reduced Thrifty’s 1985 income before taxes by $1.8 million for the year.
