MOBILE, Ala. — The cruise ship that still holds the world record for the fastest trip across the Atlantic will return to service after 17 years in dry dock upon completion of a $190-million overhaul at a Mobile shipyard, the ship’s owners said Thursday.
Alabama Dry Dock & Shipbuilding Corp. will refurbish the steel and aluminum United States, which set the transatlantic record of three days, 10 hours and 40 minutes on its maiden voyage in 1952.
