The Electronic Industries Assn. said that Americans bought almost as many videocassette recorders in the first nine months of this year as in all of 1984. Some 7.6 million VCRs were sold during 1984, compared to 7.5 million so far this year. The trade group predicts that with heavy holiday season buying, this year’s sales total will be 11.5 million units.
