Deputy Promoted to Fire Chief Post
San Diego Deputy Fire Chief John Delotch, a 22-year veteran of the force, has been named chief, City Manager Sylvester Murray said Monday. The appointment makes Delotch, 49, the city’s second-highest-ranking black administrator and department head, behind Murray. Delotch, who has been deputy chief for more than a year, will take over his new duties Oct. 31 when Fire Chief Roger Phillips retires. Phillips, 53, has worked for the city 30 years.
