Frederick W. Mielke Jr., chairman and chief executive of Pacific Gas & Electric, said he will retire from the San Francisco-based utility next April 30 after he reaches age 65. PG&E; President Barton W. Shackelford, 65, will retire Oct. 31, the company said. An earlier edition reported that Mielke and Shackelford would “resign” at age 65.
