Wide swings in weather conditions are expected to settle into more seasonal San Diego patterns this weekend when a high-pressure system promotes sunny days and temperatures in the 70s through Sunday.

Brief, but vigorous, Santa Ana conditions that evaporated moisture and shot temperatures into the 90s and 100s Tuesday abruptly changed Wednesday when winds shifted and temperatures dropped 10 to 20 degrees around the county.

The daily high reached 91 at Lindbergh Field on Tuesday, and the humidity plunged to a bone dry 9%. On Wednesday, temperatures dropped suddenly and relative humidity leaped to more than 60% when the hot winds from the east shifted to cool onshore breezes from the west.

On Thursday, temperatures had cooled to the 70s throughout the county. The high at Lindbergh Field was 70 degrees.

Clouds at night and through mid-morning returned Thursday, and are expected to hold through the weekend. A slight rise in temperatures is expected Sunday.

At the beach, daytime temperatures expected to be in the high 60s today and Saturday should rise to the 70s by Sunday. Winds of up to 18 m.p.h. from the southwest are expected, and the ocean water temperature is about 67 degrees. Surf is 2 to 3 feet.

Coastal strip highs in the low 70s today will rise slightly over the weekend; nighttime lows in the 50s are expected.

Inland valley highs in the 70s may dip to the low 50s at night, and mountain temperatures of 62 to 72 during the day are expected to fall to the 30s at night.

Blustery winds may gust through mountain passes today and Saturday as sea breezes blow toward a low-pressure area in the desert.
