A Palmdale man lost three fingers on his right hand after he picked up a pipe bomb hurled through his bedroom window and it exploded, authorities said. Robert Janis, 37, said he was awakened early Friday by the noise of shattering glass and found that someone had thrown a cylindrical object through the bedroom window. Janis said he picked up the object, intending to throw it out of the house, but before he could reach the door it exploded.
