Commonwealth bargaining over joint action on South Africa continued as heads of state met in groups in Lyford Cay, Bahamas, to find a way of persuade British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to accept economic sanctions. A luncheon for all 46 delegation heads was called off when key statesmen decided to work toward a compromise between Thatcher’s anti-sanctions stand and the push for sanctions favored by most of the Commonwealth nations.
