Papers Confirm Hauptmann Killed Lindbergh Baby

TRENTON, N.J. — Newly unearthed documents on the killing of the Lindbergh baby show that the man executed for the “crime of the century” was beaten by police but that the case was solved correctly, state investigators said today.
A lawyer for the widow of Bruno Richard Hauptmann, who was convicted of the 1932 murder of Charles A. Lindbergh’s son, said earlier that the newly discovered evidence, found at the South Amboy home of a former governor, “completely exonerates” Hauptmann.
But state Atty. Gen. Irwin I. Kimmelman said the documents, which included fingerprints taken from the child’s crib and toys, “do not cast any doubt whatsoever on the justice of the verdict.”
