Mubarak, Hussein to Meet Thursday on Peace Prospects
President Hosni Mubarak and Jordan’s King Hussein will meet Thursday in Jordan to discuss Middle East peace prospects, government sources said today.
The sources, who spoke on condition that they not be identified, said the two Arab leaders will talk about an offer by Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres to begin peace talks with Jordan this year.
The Amman meeting will be the first between the two leaders since the Oct. 1 Israeli air raid on Palestine Liberation Organization headquarters in Tunis, Tunisia, and the Oct. 7 hijacking of the ocean liner Achille Lauro by four Palestinians.
In a related development, it was revealed in Amman today that Yasser Arafat will lead a PLO team at high-level talks with Jordan next week on Middle East peace moves. No precise date for the talks was announced.
