The Clippers reduced their National Basketball Assn. roster to the 12-man limit, waiving veteran center Swen Nater. An 11-year NBA veteran, Nater had played in Europe last season and had last been in the league with the Lakers during the 1983-84 season.
“It was a tough decision,” Coach Don Chaney said. “I either had to go with three centers (James Donaldson, Benoit Benjamin and Nater) or keep two extra forwards (Jay Murphy and Rory White). If Swen had stayed, it would’ve cut into Benjamin’s playing time.”
If the Clippers come to terms with free-agent point guard Norm Nixon or trade for another guard, they will have to cut either Murphy or White.
