Torrance : Street Work Report Refused

The Torrance City Council sent back an environmental impact report on a proposed street extension, saying it had not adequately addressed potential problems.

After residents and Torrance Unified School District officials complained that accurate vehicle and pedestrian counts had not been made and that more consideration should have been given to the project’s potential effect on nearby schools, the City Council sent the report back to the consultants who prepared the report, BCL Associates Inc. of Long Beach. A new report is expected in about 30 days.

City engineers are considering two routes for the project, which would extend 223rd Street from Cabrillo Avenue to Crenshaw Boulevard. One would be along Plaza del Amo and Jefferson Street; the other would follow Washington Avenue and cut through Wilson Park. The street extension would create a new east-west route in the city.
