Minimum Arsenals

What splendid common sense in Kilpatrick’s column. As an unrepentant liberal, I have, with a few notable exceptions, usually found myself on the opposite side from Kilpatrick. So as I read, I kept checking the author’s name to make sure I had it right. Many a “dove” would hesitate to advance such candid and radical ideas, for fear of losing his credibility.

I plan to send copies of the column to President Reagan and to my ultra-conservative congressman. I hope that other readers will do the same. Not even Reagan’s hard-line advisers can find the slightest shade of pink in Kilpatrick. Is it remotely possible that they could take seriously Kilpatrick’s idea of reducing, unilaterally if need be, our nuclear arsenal to the minimum necessary for deterrence? For one day, buoyed up by such a column, I can hope so.
