Howard P. Allen and Joan B. Kroc will be honored by the League of Women Voters of California at the league’s 65th anniversary dinner, Nov. 21 in the Century Room at the Century Plaza Tower.
Allen was named chairman and chief executive officer of Southern California Edison last year. He has served on numerous boards, including the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, the National Conference of Christians and Jews and the California Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in bringing the 1984 Summer Olympics to Los Angeles.
Kroc, philanthropist and community activist, is focusing the majority of her time and attention on promoting awareness of the costs and consequences of the nuclear arms race.
Carla Hills, former U.S. secretary of housing and urban development; Fay Kanin, former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and actress Barbara Bain will participate in the program and present the league’s Carrie Chapman Catt Award for outstanding achievement.
Jess Marlow, KNXT anchorman, will be master of ceremonies. Phyllis Katz, comedienne and singer, will entertain.
Tickets are $200 with proceeds benefiting the League of Women Voters Education Fund.
