WASHINGTON — A Baltimore man who tried to hang himself in his cell after he was arrested for scaling a White House fence has died at Georgetown University Hospital, a spokeswoman said Friday.
Robert Watson, 24, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition early Wednesday after he was found hanging by his boot laces in a police station. He was kept on life-support equipment at the hospital until he died Thursday night, officials said.
Watson was arrested by Secret Service agents at about 1 a.m. Wednesday and charged with unlawful entry for trying to climb over the White House fence across the street from the Treasury Department.
Authorities said they knew of no motive for Watson’s actions.
