A Baltimore man who tried to hang himself in his cell after he was arrested for scaling a White House fence has died at Georgetown University Hospital, a spokeswoman said Friday.

Robert Watson, 24, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition early Wednesday after he was found hanging by his boot laces in a police station. He was kept on life-support equipment at the hospital until he died Thursday night, officials said.

Watson was arrested by Secret Service agents at about 1 a.m. Wednesday and charged with unlawful entry for trying to climb over the White House fence across the street from the Treasury Department.
