Culver City Rotary Plaza, a $5.3-million, 100-unit subsidized housing complex for the elderly, will open Wednesday at 5100 Overland Ave.

The project, designed by Kurt Meyer Partners and built by contractor Goldrich & Kest Inc., is a cooperative development of the city, the Culver City Rotary Club and the nonprofit Retirement Housing Foundation. Rotary Plaza has received $4.7 million in funding from federal housing grants and an additional $650,000 from the Culver City Redevelopment Agency.

All 100 apartments were filled several months ago, with residents chosen through a lottery that brought more than 800 applications. Residents must be 62 or older or handicapped; there are 200 people on the waiting list.

“Culver City Rotary Plaza serves an important need in the continuing effort to develop affordable housing for older Americans,” according to Sol Kest, partner of Goldrich & Kest Industries, a major developer of housing for senior citizens.
