A survey by the Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Service shows that the majority of family moves are less than 200 miles and that they are not moving often.
Less than 25% of the respondents had moved within the last three years. Of these, about 70% moved less than 200 miles. Six percent moved 751 to 1,000 miles, and 14% moved more than 1,000 miles.
The cost of moving, according to the survey, is usually not covered by employers, with 78% of those who moved paying for the move themselves.
The survey was conducted among two panels of 500 subscribers for research purposes. The opinions of the subscribers were sought on a variety of topics dealing with attitudes and actions of consumers; 417 people responded.
