‘Amen, Al. Amen.’

Share

What a beautiful piece of writing!

Al Martinez’s column, “Days of Amber Sunlight,” (Times, Oct. 17) once more reflected his deep understanding and feeling for the human condition--whether it flows from an encounter with a poverty-stricken family, a small-time crook, a fat-cat exploiter of other people, or a woman who stands in the middle of the October fire-ravaged countryside and “cries--just for everybody.”

He wandered through the hills “at the height of the firestorms,” he wrote, “because it isn’t good enough to view a disaster from a distance when you’re a reporter, and that’s what I’ll always be.”

Amen, Al. Amen.
