Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement officers closed Whittier Boulevard in Pico Rivera early Sunday and made more than 60 arrests in a crackdown on street cruisers gathering at an all-night hamburger stand.

Deputies from four stations, aided by Montebello police and California Highway Patrol officers, closed the boulevard for one mile between Interstate 605 and Rosemead Boulevard, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Arrests were made on charges such as possession of alcoholic drinks by minors, possession of narcotics and vehicle code infractions such as illegal modifications to automobiles, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Many of those taken into custody were minors, who were held until their parents claimed them.
