A man charged with shooting up a bar in 1982 and killing three people, was found hanged in his jail cell in an apparent suicide, deputies said. Douglas Monzingo, 32, one of four inmates who had escaped the Placer County Jail in Auburn but were quickly captured, was found dead in his one-man cell. Monzingo and two other escapees were captured only hours after they fled when they crashed a stolen car in the northern Sacramento Valley. Monzingo and escapees David Dominguez and Frank Morell were captured in the car while escapee George Newton was captured in another stolen car in nearby Newcastle, deputies said. All but Morell had been jailed on murder charges, deputies said. Morell was being held on stolen property charges.
