N.Y. PTA Will Seek Law to Help Schools Handle AIDS Cases
The New York PTA said Sunday that it will seek state legislation to guide schools on how to deal with students and employees suffering from AIDS and calm “confusion and panic” over the disease.
“We’d like to see some specific directive that says either children can or can’t be admitted to school (if they have AIDS),” state PTA President Marvin Fretwell said.
About 1,000 delegates meeting in Rochester voted to direct the state PTA to lobby for legislation establishing guidelines for school districts on providing education to children with acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
