The jury in the 5 1/2-month theft and conspiracy trial of Salvatore (Bill) Bonanno, a son of reputed former Mafia boss Joe Bonanno Sr., began deliberations on whether Bonanno cheated senior citizens out of $110,000. Bonanno and his 39-year-old brother, Joe Jr., are charged with 19 felony counts of conspiracy and bilking nine elderly Alameda County residents in a home improvement scheme from 1977 to 1978. The prosecution claimed contracts were never performed. Joe Jr. is to be tried separately. The Superior Court jury recessed for the night without reaching a verdict and was to resume work today.
