Irvine-based Ultrasystems Inc. has been awarded eight new Department of Defense contracts valued at about $13 million, as well as five extensions to existing DOD contracts worth about $7 million. A company spokesman would not specify the types of contracts, citing security reasons, but said that they involve the design of data processing systems as well as hardware and software development for space programs and command, control, communication and intelligence programs.

The contracts are expected to be performed during the government’s fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 1986. Ultrasystems Inc. is a high-tech engineering company involved in a wide range of defense and space systems projects, with emphasis on intelligence programs and satellite, missile and ground combat systems.
