Robert Mange, a science instructor at Folsom High School in Sacramento County, has been named California’s 1984 Teacher of the Year. “Teaching is more than just the giving of information,” Mange said upon accepting the award in a Los Angeles ceremony. “Teaching is a total commitment in which we must be involved not only in the classroom but in all areas of student activity.” Mange teaches three science courses, as well as serving as athletic director, curriculum adviser, science division leader and mentor teacher. Other finalists for the honor were Barbara Smith Palmer of Locke High School in Los Angeles, James Cross of Los Alamitos High School, and Joe Mattera of the Juvenile Courts School in San Diego County.
