United Nations’ 40th Anniversary
So often when we consider the problems of the world today we are left with the thought that solutions are far away or unattainable. The goal of universal immunization of the world’s children by 1990 is a breath of fresh air in that it is within our grasp and close at hand.
Recently in Turkey an initial 10-day round of nationwide immunization produced the following results, as reported by Richard Reid, a representative for UNICEF. The campaign “attained over 80% coverage of target, reaching 4.1 million children aged 5 and under,” out of an estimated 4.98 million eligible children.
In fact, the vaccination coverage of children under 1 year exceeded 83% of those eligible in 9 out of 67 provinces.
