A judge reduced an award against Western Union.

U.S. District Judge Charles P. Kocoras cut to $36 million the $102-million award that a federal jury assessed in April against the telecommunications company. The award stemmed from a 1977 antitrust suit by Olympian Equipment Leasing Co., which claimed that Western Union acted to restrict Olympian’s ability to conduct its business of leasing communications terminals. The plaintiffs must accept the reduced award or reject it and ask for a new trial by Friday. Western Union said it would appeal the award if Olympian agrees to accept it.
