Only Second in Command
I am sure someone has already noted that in Blase Bonpane’s review of Bryce Wood’s “The Dismantling of the Good Neighbor Policy” (Oct. 13), there is an unintentional error. Cordell Hull was secretary of state for F. D. R. Sumner Welles was under secretary of state.
Anyone who ever met him or heard him lecture knew he was the dominant presence at State, but still only second in command.
