Hughes Aircraft Co.’s executive committee has been selected to receive the Industrial Development Research Council’s 1985 Award for Distinguished Service in Environmental Planning “for successfully uniting the planning and construction of the Hughes Aircraft Co.’s new corporate headquarters with a most significant consideration for the environment.”

Developed and constructed for Hughes by the Koll Co., headquartered in Newport Beach, the structure provides 450,000 square feet of offices on four levels above 550,000 square feet of parking on three levels. It is stepped into a hillside beneath an established residential neighborhood in Westchester. Hughes will move about 900 corporate employees, currently in leased facilities in El Segundo, into the new headquarters toward the end of this year.
