The sixth round of Indian and Chinese border talks ended Monday with no progress reported in resolving the frontier dispute that erupted into war in 1962.

But there was “satisfactory progress” in discussions on cultural exchanges, scientific and technological cooperation, an Indian government spokesman said.

On the border dispute, the spokesman said, the delegations held substantive discussions on claims by the two sides over the eastern sector of the border and “achieved a clearer understanding of each other’s position.”
