GE was asked to sell its South African business.

Four separate groups of South African employees of General Electric have offered to buy out its operations there, company spokesman Jack Batty said. South African General Electric makes electrical capacitors, commercial and highway lighting fixtures, locomotive oil filters, industrial switch gear and control equipment. GE has about 600 South African employees at several plants. Batty gave no indication of the value of the bids being made.
