The Dutch Parliament approved in principle a government plan to deploy U.S. cruise missiles by 1988. Six members of the Christian Democratic Party, a coalition partner, voted against deployment, forcing the government to rely on help from small rightist parties to defeat a Labor opposition motion. The vote was 80 to 69. Parliament is expected to give formal approval to the missile plan next month.
