An alleged member of a white supremacist group was convicted of shooting a Missouri state trooper who stopped his van, which was filled with weapons. A jury convicted David Tate, 23, of killing Highway Patrol Trooper Jimmie Linegar, 31, during a routine traffic check in southern Missouri in April. Trooper Allen D. Hines, 35, also was shot but recovered and testified at the trial. Tate, of Athol, Ida., faces the death penalty or life in prison.
