Neo-Nazi Given Life in Killing of Trooper
A jury recommended Thursday that neo-Nazi David C. Tate be sentenced to life in prison for shooting a state trooper to death last spring. Prosecutors had asked that Tate be sentenced to the gas chamber.
The Boone County Circuit Court jury, which spent almost 10 hours considering the sentence, had deliberated more than 3 1/2 hours Wednesday before convicting Tate, 23, of Athol, Ida., of first-degree murder in the April 15 death of Trooper Jimmie L. Linegar, 31.
Death or life in prison were the jury’s only sentencing options. Judge Frank Conley has not set a date for formal sentencing.
