May Department Stores Co. of St. Louis has chosen Frank Heavey to be general manager of Park La Brea, a 178-acre commercial and residential center at Third Street between Fairfax and La Brea avenues in Los Angeles. May Department Stores, which had been a 50% partner in the complex for decades, bought it outright in February.

Heavey, who begins his new job Thursday, has had “significant experience in residential property management and development in Southern California since 1960,” a spokesman for May Department Stores said. Most recently, Heavey managed the residential property of Bunker Hill Towers in Los Angeles, the spokesman said.

Heavey replaces Richard Taylor, who has acted as interim general manager since May Department Stores took over in February. Taylor will go back to his former job in St. Louis as vice president of operations for May Centers, which oversees May Department Stores’ real estate properties.

Park La Brea includes a 4,253-unit apartment complex, a major May Co. department store and a 90,000-square-foot shopping center. May Department Stores said that Heavey’s appointment will not result in changes in the operation of the complex.
