Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Pakistan’s President Zia ul-Haq today expressed optimism about warmer relations between their countries after talks during Oman’s National Day celebrations.

Both leaders described their half-hour meeting as “very good.” Gandhi said, “The mood is there for normalization.” Zia told reporters that Gandhi invited him to India and added that he might go there in mid-December after a summit of the seven-nation South Asian Assn. for Regional Cooperation in Dhaka.
