Elliot Richardson will head the Hitachi Foundation.
Hitachi, the Japanese electronics conglomerate that has been criticized for its trade practices, endowed the $20-million foundation to fund U.S. cultural and educational projects. Richardson, who was named chairman, is a former attorney general and secretary of commerce. It said the Washington-based foundation will “help us fulfill our commitment to the American society even more completely than in the past.”
