The U.S. Air Force has placed a $7,018,000 order with EIP Microwave Inc. in Newport Beach for a year-long shipment of standard test instruments that measure whether communications and electronic warfare systems are receiving microwave signals properly.

The company will start sending the microwave frequency counters to the San Antonio Air Logistics Center at Kelly Air Force Base in Texas before the end of the year. Two-thirds of the order will be filled by the end of EIP’s fiscal year next Sept. 26. The remainder will be shipped in fiscal 1987. Mark Howlett, vice chairman of EIP, would not reveal how many counters will be built for the Air Force.

EIP Microwave manufactures microwave test and measurement instruments which are predominantly used in the defense and telecommunications industries. The company has manufacturing facilities in San Jose and corporate offices in Newport Beach.
