Countywide : Judge Delays Deadline on Jail Population Level
U.S. Dist. Court Judge William P. Gray has granted a 45-day delay on the deadline for decreasing the population at the men’s jail in Santa Ana to no more than 1,500 inmates.
The request for a delay came from Lawrence Grossman, the special master appointed by Gray, who told the judge in a Nov. 6 letter that jail officials needed the extra time to install the 450-bed modular units at the James A. Musick Honor Farm. The population at the main men’s jail has been between 1,500 and 1,600 inmates, but is expected to dip well below 1,500 prisoners once the new Musick units are ready.
