LAJES AIR BASE, Azores —
A British Airways jumbo jet with 351 people aboard made an emergency landing in the Azores Islands today after a false fire alert. Sixteen people suffered minor injuries while sliding down airplane exit chutes.
Airline officials said they did not know what triggered the alarm in the cargo hold of the jetliner, which was flying from St. Lucia and Barbados in the Caribbean to London.
