Cannon Mills and J. P. Stevens held buy-out talks.

Cannon Mills owner David Murdock said he has talked to competing textile giant J. P. Stevens & Co. about the possible sale of his company. But Murdock added in a speech at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business: “I would doubt very much that we would ever sell to J. P. Stevens.”
