Churches Challenge Classification as PACs
Associated Press
JACKSON, Tenn. —
Area churches are challenging a ruling by Madison County Chancery Court that churches be classified as “political action committees” required to file financial returns.
The ruling was imposed against 13 churches that had contributed either to Citizens Against Drug Abuse or to a campaign against a liquor-by-the-drink referendum.
Contending that their efforts were on religious-moral grounds, and not for political reasons, the churches said they would take the case to the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
