A Hollywood couple have been arrested on mail fraud charges stemming from a telephone sales promotion that grossed an estimated $1 million. U.S. postal inspectors arrested Leslie Burke, 56, and Judith Burke, 54, at their company office on South Fairfax Avenue. Postal inspectors said the Burkes allegedly established two telephone sales “boiler rooms” to sell $499 “executive” pen and pencil sets. Nationwide customers were told that if they purchased the pen set they were guaranteed to receive $5,000 cash, a Hobie Cat sailboat or a 1985 Lincoln Continental. The customers received the pen set, but the other gifts were never delivered, according to the complaint. The Burkes are free on $50,000 bail each.
