The Soviets bought an additional 400,000 metric tons of corn--about 15.8 million bushels--for delivery in the coming year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported. Officials said the sales were reported to the USDA by private exporters as required by law. The department says the latest estimated price of corn is about $2.38 per bushel at the farm. A metric ton is about 39.4 bushels of corn. Thus, the latest sales would have an estimated value of about $38 million.
