Anti-Terrorism Expert Urges Special Squads
A leading anti-terrorism expert called Monday for commando squads to be mobilized worldwide to deal with hijackings such as the EgyptAir takeover that ended in Malta.
Paul Wilkinson, a professor of international relations at Aberdeen University and a consultant for North Atlantic governments, said the squads should be based regionally in prearranged locations to deal with hijackings in nations without their own special units.
Martin Hudson, another British expert, citing reports of indiscriminate firing inside the plane at Malta, charged that the Egyptian troops were inexperienced and “the dead passengers were the price paid.”
Hudson, an official for Paragon Security, which has links to Britain’s elite Special Air Services, told the British Broadcasting Corp. that he agrees with the decision to storm the plane but not with the tactics of the commandos.
