The University of Texas at Arlington--the state’s fifth largest college--will drop its football program to save money.

“For the past 10 to 15 years the financial condition in athletics has gradually worsened,” said school president Dr. W.H. Neederman. “Despite our best efforts, costs have continued to escalate faster than our income.

“This year, with funding of over $800,000, we face a deficit of approximately $950,000.”
