Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev made a better impression on West Germans than President Reagan at the Geneva summit, while Raisa Gorbachev vastly outshone Nancy Reagan, according to a popularity poll released Tuesday.

The opinion survey, conducted by Emnid Institute of Bielefeld for West German television, showed that 32% of the respondents found Gorbachev the more appealing of the two leaders compared to 23% who preferred Reagan.

Among the leaders’ wives, people favored Raisa Gorbachev over Nancy Reagan by a lopsided 46% to 12%.
