A state Assembly committee will ask representatives of federal, state and local agencies to outline their plans to clean up ground water contamination in the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys at a hearing on Dec. 5 at Rosemead City Hall.

Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D-El Monte) will conduct the hearing to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Agencies invited to testify include the federal Environmental Protection Agency, state Department of Health Services, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Water wells in both the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys have been contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE) and other industrial solvents. The hearing will elicit testimony on overall cleanup plans and on how agencies have dealt with contamination problems at wells serving El Monte and Hacienda Heights.
