The Cerritos City Council has approved the expansion of the Norm Reeves Honda dealership to make room for sale of a new Korean automobile, the Hyundai. The expansion calls for a new 29,820-square-foot showroom, two covered drive-through service areas and a new driveway off Studebaker Road. The project is scheduled to begin immediately with completion expected sometime next spring.

The Cerritos dealership will be one of the first in the United States for Hyundai. The Korean manufacturer sold more than 25,000 of its low-price, subcompact Pony II cars in Canada last year. Because of that success, the company is introducing its two other models north of the border in 1986 as well as expanding into the U.S. marketplace. In Canada, the Pony II has been selling for about $6,000, but reports in auto trade publications said the same car in the U.S. probably will retail for about $4,000.
