Placentia : Treasurer’s Post Open, but It Doesn’t Pay Well

The job doesn’t pay much, but outgoing City Treasurer Jean Pappas recommends her position to any resident as “a good public service.”

Monday is the deadline to apply for the office of city treasurer, a part-time job that pays $5 a month.

Pappas resigned when residents voted Nov. 5 to postpone next April’s election to November. The position, she said, became too time-consuming.

Council members will review the applications after 5 p.m. Monday and interview candidates Tuesday. They are expected to name their choice on Jan. 7. The term of office will continue until the next city election in November.

The council is also seeking applicants for a newly created nonprofit foundation, which will funnel donations to the city’s recreational and cultural programs. Dec. 31 is the deadline to return applications.

A nine-member board will oversee the foundation. Five members will be appointed by the council and four will be representatives from the Recreation and Parks Commission and the Cultural Arts Commission.
