A change of heart by the U.S. Border Patrol may mean the agency will keep a regional office in Campo. Saying it had outgrown its station on the outskirts of the border town, the Border Patrol announced plans in March to move to an eight-acre site near the Tecate border crossing. Heeding the protests of Campo residents and a report that indicated drainage problems at the proposed relocation site, federal officials decided to keep an office in the Campo area. The Border Patrol is now considering moving the office to several acres near the center of Campo, where there would be room for 100 officers, compared to the 37 agents at the current station.
